The interface framework for a new high-speed railway
My role: Interface Manager and Integration & Installation Manager for Alliance 1.
- Programme
- Rail Baltica, Alliance 1
- Alliance scope
- 142 km of new 1435 mm railway, delivered by the alliance
- My role
- Interface Manager; Integration & Installation Manager
- Period
- 2025 – present
Challenge
A new-build line delivered by an alliance for infrastructure, with separate client-procured contractors for electrification and signalling, station designers and adjacent alliances. Every interface had to be defined, owned and evidenced before the design could be accepted.
What I did
An Interface Management Plan, a suite of generic and location-specific Interface Control Forms, and a register in which every requirement has a provider, a receiver, an ICF and a verification method. Scope definition, and verification evidence tracked by design stage.
Outcome
A framework built to identify and resolve interface issues at design stage, before they reach site, where fixing them costs possessions and programme.
- INFRA / ENE Overhead line foundations in the embankment: position, depth and earthworks sequence.
- ENE / INFRA Contact wire height and stagger, set from the track alignment.
- INFRA / CCS Balise positions on the sleepers, cable routes and crossings under the track.
- INFRA / FAC Platform edge offset and height to the running rail.
